 What Our Customers Say
The installation went great and the (Caesarstone) countertops are beautiful! The lazy susan in the corner of our counter looks beautiful and is a practical place to put flour, sugar, tea canisters, and knife blocks without taking up a lot of counter space. We're very pleased.

Thank you so much for the beautiful kitchen. We love it. I don’t know how we got along with so little space for so many years.

Tom Detty, Kitchen DesignerTom Detty
Kitchen Designer & Co-owner

Like every other young man in his twenties, Tom was looking for his niche in life....a career. Tom is married to a Beavercreek school teacher, Karen.  Together, they have a daughter, Morgan (12) and a son, Connor (9).

Questions & Answers with Tom

My most embarassing cooking moment is ...

One time I blew up a jar of Cheez-Whiz in the microwave!

How I became affiliated with The Kitchen Place ...

I was friends with Karla and Kelly (Osvath) in high school and college. In 1986, their father, Alec (co-founder of The Kitchen Place) required a quadruple heart bypass. Their mom, Betty (the other co-founder), needed help in the showroom and warehouse, so they came to me asking for my "help. So, I quit my two jobs...and the rest is history. Over time, I learned every aspect of the kitchen business, from field measuring, to layout, to installations. It has become a very nice career for me.

You would be surprised to know that I ...

...and the founder of The Kitchen Place (Alec Osvath) share the same birthday, February 28th.

  • I like Nascar
  • I had a perm when I was 23. Hey, it was the 80's!

My dream kitchen would be ...

a very contemporary kitchen with lots of glass.

My kitchen at home is ...

KraftMaid, Bradford Cherry, raised panel with the autumn blush finish. Solid surface countertops with a granite island.

I spend my personal time ...

Are you joking?  Well, here's what I do:  home and rental property maintenance, motor cycle rides, kids activities, Ohio State football (and my wife is a bigger fan that I am!)

If I weren't a kitchen designer, I would be a ...

police officer. When I joined the National Guard after high school, I enjoyed the structure and discipline. I enrolled in law enforcement program at Clark Tech back in the 80s.  But I got involved with The Kitchen Place (see next question).

I like working at The Kitchen Place because ...

I like being my own boss and I enjoy working with my co-workers.  I like coming to work.

Tom's Favorite Recipe

Hungarian Crepes

The entire Osvath family is crazy about crepes. This recipe is in honor of Alec and Betty Osvath, who shared this recipe with many friends and family.

Combine and mix in bowl:
8 Eggs

1 Tbsp Sugar
1 Tsp Vanilla
1/2 Tsp Salt

Add in the following ingredients and mix together:

1 Cup Milk
1 Cup Flour

Next, add the following
4 Tbsp Butter

Poor in a greased, flat skillet and cook until a tender brown. Or, if you have a crepe maker, simply dip the surface into the batter.

Garnish with home made whip cream, strawberries, bananas, blueberries or kiwis. As an yummy option, coat the inside of the crepe with vanilla pudding.

Irresistible!
